The size of children's books usually depends on the target age group. Smaller sizes are more appropriate for preschoolers and younger children. This is a chart of the most common children's book sizes.
Children's book paper options
Typically, children's books feature colorful pictures and artwork. We recommend using glossy or matte art papers for the best results. These paper types provide an ideal surface for color printing. However, for drawing or coloring books, it is best to use uncoated stock. The uncoated paper will accept pencils, inks and other media, while glossy paper will not.
Children's Book Binding
Although you can choose any binding style for your children's books, paperback and hardcover are the most popular choices, along with cardboard bindings for these specific products.
While riding staples are an available option, staples present a safety hazard and lack the durability needed for children's use. For this reason, DIKA does not recommend horseback stapling for children's subjects.
However, if your creation is best suited for horseback stapling, we recommend using a similar but stronger and safer sewn binding.
The best options for durability and strength are hardcover or sewn binding. Both methods provide strength and flexibility for a durable and well-loved book.

Design and art tips for children's books
Your book should contain more art and illustrations and less text for a more colorful and vibrant presentation. Children's books often rely on images to support their stories.
Dika recommends that all your images be high-resolution PDF files for the best print results. In addition, we prefer digital images over hand-drawn images. If you are using hand-drawn illustrations, please provide DIKA with the highest-resolution scan of your artwork for the best results.
